How to Export Everything from Evernote (2025 Guide)
Whether you're frustrated with Evernote's 50-note limit, tired of price increases, or just ready for something new—the first step is getting your data out. This guide shows you exactly how to export everything from Evernote, including all your attachments and tags.
What gets exported?
Step 1: Open Evernote Desktop
You'll need the desktop application (Windows or Mac). The web version has limited export options, and mobile apps can't export ENEX files at all.
If you don't have it installed, download it from evernote.com/download.
Step 2: Select Your Notes
Navigate to the notebook you want to export. Then:
- Windows: Press
Ctrl + Ato select all notes - Mac: Press
Cmd + Ato select all notes
You can also click individual notes while holding Ctrl/Cmd to select specific ones.
Instead of selecting individual notes, you can right-click on a notebook in the sidebar and choose Export Notebook. This exports all notes in that notebook in one step—much faster!
Step 3: Export to ENEX Format
With your notes selected:
- Go to File in the menu bar
- Click Export Notes...
- Choose ENEX format (.enex)
- Pick a save location you'll remember
- Click Save
ENEX is Evernote's native export format. It preserves everything: note content, formatting, attachments, tags, and metadata. Other formats (like HTML) lose important data.
Step 4: Repeat for Each Notebook
Evernote exports one notebook at a time. If you have multiple notebooks, you'll need to repeat steps 2-3 for each one. Name your files clearly (e.g., work-notes.enex, personal.enex).
Tips for Large Exports
- Keep exports under 500MB for best compatibility with import tools
- If a notebook is huge, export in batches (select 500 notes at a time)
- Large video attachments may cause issues—consider excluding them
- Export when you have stable internet (attachments need to sync first)
Where to Import Your Notes
Now that you have your ENEX files, you can import them into various apps:
- Tobi – Full ENEX import with AI organization (see how)
- Notion – Settings → Import → Evernote
- Obsidian – Use the Importer plugin
- OneNote – Limited support via third-party tools
