Nobody's Evernote is short of space. The reason it stopped being useful is that finding the one thing you wrote in 2019 means remembering a word you used in 2019. A search box cannot help you with a question like "what did we agree with Henderson about pricing," because you did not write it in those words. Import turns the archive from a filing cabinet into something you can ask.
Evernote gives you an .enex file. Notion, Obsidian, and Apple Notes give you a folder you zip. Exact instructions per app are below.

Yes, and that is the point of doing it this way. Every note becomes a plain markdown file. Export the whole vault in one click any day, including the day you cancel. They open in any text editor, and any AI model in ten years will still read them.
They do not come across. Evernote's export wraps attachments in a format we do not unpack, so an image or a PDF in a note becomes a marker that says an attachment was omitted. The text of every note comes over intact.
If your notes lean heavily on attachments, keep the original export file. Nothing about importing here deletes anything on the other side.
